The Nov. 1-4 summit in St. John’s will be addressed by King Charles at the opening ceremony on Nov. 3.
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Leaders from the Commonwealth’s 56 countries will gather in Antigua and Barbuda from Nov. 1 to 4 for the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), the Commonwealth Secretariat said. The summit’s theme is “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth.”
King Charles III, as Head of the Commonwealth, will address the opening ceremony on Nov. 3, accompanied by Queen Camilla. The visit is part of a Caribbean tour that runs from Oct. 27 to Nov. 4 and includes the Bahamas and a state visit to Guyana. Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne will welcome delegates at a “One Commonwealth Night” of music, poetry and dance from across the Commonwealth’s regions.

“We have 2.7 billion reasons to act,” Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey said. The Commonwealth is home to about 2.7 billion people, more than 60 percent of them aged 29 or under. It includes 33 of the world’s 42 small states, and the combined economy of its members is projected to reach US$19.5 trillion by 2027.
The summit will focus on climate resilience, trade, innovation, equality and sustainable development. The Secretariat has launched an investment platform listing more than 60 high-impact projects from member countries that are seeking financing. Alongside the leaders’ meeting there will be Women’s, People’s, Youth and Business forums, plus side events on subjects including blue finance, eye health, sport, and safeguarding democracy and inclusion.
Cricket is part of the program. Cricket West Indies will host “One Commonwealth, One Team,” a cricket celebration with heads of government and young players, on Nov. 1 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, following Antigua and Barbuda’s Independence Day celebrations. Sir Vivian Richards is the summit’s envoy. The previous meetings were in Samoa in 2024 and Rwanda in 2022.
