Trinidad and Tobago opened its campaign at the 2027 Netball World Cup Americas qualifiers with a 61-44 victory over Grenada on Monday at the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in Barbados. The Calypso Girls secured a 17-goal margin in their opening match of the round-robin tournament, which runs through Oct. 26.
Goal shooter Maikea Bramble and goal attack Kira Rothwell led Trinidad and Tobago’s scoring effort. Bramble converted 30 of her 32 attempts, while Rothwell scored 18 goals from 19 attempts, according to local broadcast reporting. Veteran shooter Samantha Wallace-Joseph also contributed 13 goals from 14 attempts as Trinidad and Tobago established control of the contest.
The result gave the national team an important opening win in a competition featuring eight teams: Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Barbados, Canada, the United States, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and the British Virgin Islands. Each team will play the others once during the preliminary round, with the two highest-placed sides earning places at the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia.

The qualifiers provide Trinidad and Tobago with an opportunity to return to the sport’s biggest international tournament. The World Cup is scheduled for Aug. 25 to Sept. 5, 2027. Australia qualified automatically as host, while several other nations secured places through their international rankings and previous results. The Americas qualifiers will determine the region’s remaining representatives.
Trinidad and Tobago’s next scheduled match is against St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The team is also due to face the United States, Canada, St. Lucia, the British Virgin Islands and host nation Barbados before the round-robin stage concludes. Consistent results across those fixtures will determine whether the Calypso Girls finish among the top two teams and secure qualification for Sydney.
