Trinidad and Tobago relegated

Trinidad and Tobago were relegated to League B after drawing Curaçao 1-1 Sunday. The Soca Warriors finished fifth.

Trinidad and Tobago have been relegated from League A of the Concacaf Nations League after a 1-1 draw against Curaçao at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain on Sunday.

The Soca Warriors took the lead in the 39th minute when Luke Phillip fired a right-footed shot into the Curaçao net. The visitors responded in the 61st minute, with Jordi Paulina finding the equaliser inside the penalty area.

The draw left Trinidad and Tobago fifth in Group A with one point from four matches, behind Curaçao, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica. Under the Nations League’s promotion and relegation system, the fifth- and sixth-place teams in League A are relegated to League B.

Curaçao, meanwhile, secured a place in the League A quarterfinals with the draw. Trinidad and Tobago’s campaign ended with three defeats and one draw, while the team will now drop to League B for the next stage of the competition.

The result marks a disappointing end to Trinidad and Tobago’s League A campaign after the Soca Warriors had entered the competition among six teams in Group A, alongside Curaçao, Haiti, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.
