Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 162 as the West Indies chased down 352. India still won the three-match ODI series 2-1.

West Indies captain Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 162 to power a record run chase and beat India by five wickets in the third and final ODI on Saturday in New Chandigarh, avoiding a series whitewash. India still claimed the three-match series 2-1 after winning the first two matches.
Chasing 352 for victory, West Indies lost opener John Campbell early before Hope anchored the innings, batting through 48.2 overs despite playing through a niggling injury after also keeping wicket for the full 50 overs in India’s innings. His 162 not out off 143 balls, his 21st ODI century and fifth against India, included 15 fours and two sixes and eclipsed KL Rahul’s own century earlier in the day. West Indies completed the chase, their highest successful run chase in ODI history and their first win over India since 2023, with 10 balls to spare, finishing on 352-5.
Earlier, India had been reduced to 4-2 after Jayden Seales struck twice in the opening overs, including dismissing Virat Kohli for a golden duck. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul steadied the innings with a major partnership, with Rahul finishing unbeaten on a career-best 129 off 87 balls, including 10 fours and six sixes, and Rohit contributing 92. Ruturaj Gaikwad added a half-century lower in the order as India reached 351-7, with Seales finishing with figures of 3-62 for the West Indies.
West Indies head coach Daren Sammy said before the match that results had not gone the team’s way but that the squad continued improving, a sentiment reflected in Saturday’s performance even as the series slipped away. The two sides will next meet in a five-match T20I series.
