Police shut down a protest outside the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Port of Spain over criminal charges filed against Kaia Sealy in connection with the January fatal police shooting of Joshua Samaroo. Two people were detained as demonstrators vowed to continue protests later this week.
A demonstration outside the office of the DDP today on Richmond Street, Port of Spain was shut down by the Trinidad and Tobago Police. Scores of people holding placards were at the demonstration in protest of the criminal charges laid against Kaia Sealy with respect to the January 20th 2026 Fatal Police Shooting of Joshua Samaroo in St Augustine after a high-speed chase.
Warned that any such demonstration would be shut down without consent, the Trinidad and Tobago Police made good on their promise and shut the demonstration down, dispersing the gathered. Assistant Commissioner of Police Sean Henry was seen speaking to the protesters warning them of their illegal action and also stating that there was no application and any such application would have been received by him, and that if there was one, and it was granted, the Police would have no reason to intervene.
Coming out of the event, 2 people were detained by the police, namely Alyssa Phillip, a friend of Kaia Sealy, and Jason De Silva, a well-known social media personality. The protesters vow to continue their actions later this week at the Forensic Center.
