India, West Indies Share T20 Series 2-2 After Rain Ends Decider

Rain washed out the T20 decider in Bengaluru, leaving the series 2-2. India were 118-5 when play ended.

Rain washed out the deciding Twenty20 international between India and West Indies in Bengaluru on Saturday, leaving the five-match series tied 2-2 after India reached 118-5 in 7.4 overs.

Play at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium began an hour and 45 minutes late, and the match was cut to nine overs a side. West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss at 9 p.m. local time and chose to field. When the rain returned, the umpires called off play after just 48 minutes, with not even a five-overs-a-side contest possible, according to AFP. More than 20,000 fans waited out the delays at the stadium, which was hosting its first international since an October 2024 Test between India and New Zealand.

India’s batters made the most of the short innings, hitting eight fours and seven sixes. Ishan Kishan scored 30 off 10 balls before Shamar Joseph dismissed him, and his six off Romario Shepherd was the 100th of the series. Sanju Samson was bowled by Shamar Springer, and India captain Shreyas Iyer was caught off Keemo Paul. Naman Dhir finished unbeaten on 24 from six balls, including three sixes. Paul took 2-34 and Springer 2-17. India recalled Bhuvneshwar Kumar for his first international appearance in almost four years.

West Indies’ wait for a bilateral series win in India since 2002 continues, the International Cricket Council said. Hope was named Player of the Series after scoring 261 runs at an average of 130.5 in four innings, the most by any player on either side. Paul was the leading bowler with eight wickets in three matches. India are the reigning ICC Men’s T20 World Cup champions.

India will next travel to New Zealand for an all-format tour that begins Oct. 22. West Indies will visit Bangladesh for a two-match World Test Championship series.
