A truck drove onto a youth soccer field in Wichita. Two people were killed and 11 were injured.
A 6-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man were killed and 11 other people were injured when a truck drove through a youth soccer game in Wichita, Kansas, on Saturday afternoon, police said.
First responders were called to the Stryker Soccer Complex around 3:25 p.m. CT after multiple 911 calls, Capt. Aaron Moses of the Wichita Police Department told reporters. When officers arrived, the truck was at the west end of the field, and bystanders were helping the injured. The boy and the man, both of McPherson, Kansas, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Of the 11 people taken to hospitals, five are children aged 5 to 9, police said. The injured adults range in age from 28 to 68. Ten had traumatic injuries, which Moses said ranged from bruises to extremely severe injuries.
Police said the driver, a 34-year-old woman from Garden City, Kansas, stayed with the truck and has been cooperative. She is in police custody. Two juveniles were also inside the truck when it went onto the field. Moses said he believes one of the driver’s children was at the complex that day but was not on that field. Police have not released her name or said why it happened.

Police Chief Joe Sullivan said investigators know what happened but not yet why. Police have interviewed more than 30 witnesses and are asking anyone with photos or video to share them. Sullivan said bystanders gave life-saving aid until first responders arrived. Mayor Lily Wu said the city grieves together. Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly said she was monitoring the situation and offered condolences to the families. The city canceled all events at the complex until further notice.
