Trinidad and Tobago lost 2-1 at home to the Dominican Republic. Both Nations League matches ended in defeat.

Trinidad and Tobago lost 2-1 to the Dominican Republic on Sunday night in a CONCACAF Nations League A match at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain. It was the team’s first home game of the campaign and its second straight defeat, following a 3-2 loss at Haiti in which it conceded twice in stoppage time. Trinidad and Tobago had won all 11 previous meetings between the sides, according to Sportskeeda.
Daniel Phillips put the hosts ahead in the 37th minute with a half-volley from the edge of the penalty area, the Trinidad Express reported. Heinz Mörschel equalized with a long-range shot in the 42nd minute, and Mariano Díaz gave the visitors the lead in the 50th. Trinidad and Tobago pressed late, with Levi Garcia hitting the crossbar and other attempts missing the target, but could not find an equalizer. The match ended with disciplinary trouble. Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Wayne Frederick II and the Dominican Republic’s Edison Azcona were sent off after a late scuffle, and Phillips was shown a red card after the final whistle for dissent.
The result leaves Trinidad and Tobago without a point in Group A after two matches. In other Sunday results, Haiti beat Costa Rica 2-0 and Curaçao defeated Nicaragua 6-0. The Nations League also serves as qualifying for the 2027 Gold Cup. The top two teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals, the third- and fourth-placed teams enter Gold Cup preliminaries, and the bottom two face a play-in for relegation to League B, according to FutnSoccer. Head coach Derek King is still seeking his first win with the team, the Express reported, and Trinidad and Tobago’s remaining group fixtures include a two-match series against Curaçao.
