Brandon King’s unbeaten 81 led West Indies to an eight-wicket win over Bangladesh. They lead the series 1-0.
Brandon King made an unbeaten 81, his career-best Test score, and John Campbell added 49 as West Indies chased down 170 to beat Bangladesh by eight wickets in the first Test at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday.
The openers made light work of the target. Campbell made 49 off 55 balls, and the pair put on more than 110 runs for the first wicket in about 21 overs before Shoriful Islam bowled Campbell. Bangladesh’s spinners, Taijul Islam, Nayeem Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, could not make further inroads. King survived two dropped catches on the way to his innings and was unbeaten as the target was reached.

Bangladesh, who chose to bat first, made 272 in their first innings, with opener Shadman Islam scoring a century. West Indies replied with 245, with Roston Chase making 43 and Tagenarine Chanderpaul an unbeaten 43 at one stage in the innings. Nayeem took four wickets, including his 50th in Tests, and Mehidy and Taijul took two each. Bangladesh led by 27 runs, but they were bowled out for 142 in their second innings, which left West Indies a target of 170.

It was Bangladesh’s first Test defeat at home in two years and their third straight home loss against West Indies. The result leaves West Indies 1-0 up in the two-match series. In the World Test Championship standings, West Indies remain in eighth place but with a higher points percentage, and Bangladesh dropped one place.
