Harvey Weinstein was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting former television production assistant Miriam Haley in New York in 2006, concluding another chapter in a criminal case that has stretched across more than six years. The sentence was imposed by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Curtis Farber after Weinstein was convicted at a 2025 retrial.
Weinstein, 74, was originally convicted in New York in 2020 and sentenced to 23 years after jurors found him guilty of sexually assaulting Haley and raping aspiring actress Jessica Mann. New York’s highest court overturned those convictions in 2024, ruling that the original trial had been improperly conducted and ordering a new trial.
At the 2025 retrial, Weinstein was convicted of first-degree criminal sexual act involving Haley. Jurors acquitted him of a separate charge involving former model Kaja Sokola but could not reach a verdict on the rape allegation involving Mann. Prosecutors later dropped the Mann charge after another trial ended without a verdict and Mann said she did not want to testify in another proceeding.
Haley addressed the court before sentencing, describing the lasting effects of the assault and the years of legal proceedings. Weinstein, who has consistently denied sexually assaulting anyone, also spoke to the judge and maintained his innocence while expressing remorse for the harm caused to Haley. His lawyers have indicated that he plans to appeal.
The New York case began after allegations against Weinstein became public in 2017, helping fuel the #MeToo movement and prompting wider scrutiny of sexual misconduct and the use of power in the entertainment industry. Weinstein was once one of Hollywood’s most influential producers, with films including “Pulp Fiction,” “Shakespeare in Love” and “Chocolat.”
Weinstein has already spent more than six years in custody. He also faces a separate criminal case in California, where he was convicted in 2022 of rape and sexual assault and received a 16-year sentence. A California appeals court upheld those convictions in 2026 but ordered a new sentencing proceeding after determining that the original sentence had been influenced by the now-overturned New York convictions.
