Real Madrid defeated Elche 3-2 on Tuesday in a dramatic LaLiga match, with a late goal securing all three points after Elche had erased a two-goal deficit. Arda Güler and Kylian Mbappé put Madrid ahead before Elche fought back through goals from Álvaro Núñez and another second-half scorer, but Madrid found the winner in stoppage time.
Madrid controlled much of the opening half and took the lead from a Güler free kick that ended up in the net after striking the post and goalkeeper Matías Dituro. Mbappé then doubled the advantage after combining with Yan Diomande, giving José Mourinho’s side a comfortable position going into halftime.
Elche responded strongly after the break, taking advantage of Madrid’s reduced control and eventually leveling the match. Madrid’s changes helped restore some attacking threat late in the game, and Carlos Espí scored the decisive goal in added time after receiving a pass from Mbappé.
The victory keeps Real Madrid at the top end of the early LaLiga standings after six matches, while the result also extends the club’s strong start to the season. Madrid’s next league fixture is the Madrid derby against Atlético Madrid on Sept. 20.
